U of A International Student Network (UAISN)

Purpose

The purpose of this moderated mailing list is to facilitate communication among University of Alberta international and domestic students and to help connect students to events and activities on campus and in the community, especially those with an international focus.

List Owners

The list is a service of the University of Alberta International Centre (International Student Services unit). If you have concerns or questions about UAISN, contact uaisn-admin@international.ualberta.ca or call (780) 492-2692.

Who Can Subscribe?

There is currently no restriction on subscribers, so anyone can subscribe to the list. Most subscribers are U of A students (international and Canadian) and alumni, U of A staff, and International Centre volunteers. Since commercial email services have limited storage capacities, we strongly recommend subscribing with a University of Alberta email account, since we will unsubscribe email accounts from which messages bounce due to the account being over quota.

Visit the subscription page or the main UAISN settings page to subscribe, unsubscribe, get a password reminder, or change your options (eg, switch to or from digest mode, change your password, etc.).

You can also make such adjustments via email with the word `help’ in the subject or body, and you will get back a message with instructions.

Who Can Post?

Only subscribed University of Alberta email addresses may post messages to the UAISN list. Therefore, if you are subscribed to the list with a non-University of Alberta email address, you are limited to receiving messages only. This restriction helps reduce and prevent junk email being posted to the list.

To post to this list, send your email to uaisn@mailman.srv.ualberta.ca

UAISN Topics

Rules for Posting Messages

  • UAISN is a moderated list-- all messages are held for moderation and will be posted within three business days.
  • Messages sent on behalf of non "...@ualberta.ca" accounts will not be posted
  • Requests and offers for roommate shares must list an @ualberta.ca account as the contact.
  • Items and services for sale will not be circulated on UAISN.
  • All members of UAISN must follow the rules below when posting messages to the network.
  • When sending a message to the network, the subject line must clearly indicate the message topic.
  • The list owners may impose restrictions or changes to acceptable posting topics at any time, and members will be notified of the change
  • All messages must be in English, or accompanied by an English translation.
  • When responding to a message sent to UAISN, do not to hit the “reply all” button, unless you are responding with additional information that is useful for all members of the network. Otherwise, respond only to the person who sent the message.
  • When advertising an event, clearly indicate the name of the group that is sponsoring the particular event or gathering.
  • Do not post the same message more than once. If you must send a reminder for an upcoming event, do not send the reminder within the same week as the original message.   Additional messages should not be posted  unless the new message contains a significant amount of new information. Please make sure your postings are correct before you hit send.
  • Do not use UAISN to proselytize (trying to convert others to) or promote the beliefs of any particular religion. On the other hand, inviting members of UAISN to an informational meeting to learn more about a religious topic, or to join in a social gathering of a religious student group would be examples of appropriate messages.
  • Do not use UAISN to promote your political viewpoints. However, inviting people to an event or information session at which they might learn about or discuss a political topic, is appropriate.
  • The list owners reserve the right to unsubscribe and block from further subscription and posting, any subscriber who sends inappropriate or offensive mail either to the entire list or to any individual subscriber, or who misuses the list in any way, as determined by the list owners.
