U of A+ is a two-week intensive program for incoming first-year international undergraduate students. These courses will develop your skills to succeed in the Canadian post-secondary system.
U of A+ will be held at the University of Alberta August 14 - 27, 2012. Check back for the 2012 program schedule.
Through classes, workshops, one-on-one training and peer-led activities, students learn about:
- Writing papers, lab reports and review Canadian academic standards
- Communicating with professors, teaching assistants, and classmates
- Studying and note-taking strategies, as well as your individual learning style for academic success
- Meeting professors' expectations for exams, assignments, group work and class participation
- Understanding key concepts of critical thinking and writing
- Using resources on campus to support your academic success
Registration will be limited to 100 students.
Who Can Apply?
Students from all faculties are welcome.
To apply, you must be:
- a first-year international student coming to attend the University of Alberta
- enrolled in an undergraduate degree program
- have a valid study permit
Costs and Accommodations
The cost of the program is $150/person, if you register before June 15, 2012; or $200/person, if you register after June 15. The program fee includes:
- your program registration
- all classes, workshops, training, and class materials
- entrance fees and transportation cost for field trip and graduation dinner
When arriving, you should prepare for additional costs such as transportation from the airport, meals, and temporary accommodations if required.

Accommodations
Students enrolled in UofA+ can register for temporary accommodation as part of the program, or they may secure their own alternative lodging in Edmonton. If you would like to register for temporary accommodations through us, please indicate your choice on the online registration.
Regardless of your choice, volunteers will be on-hand throughout the 2-week program to assist you in the process of finding off-campus for the academic year.
